(cont) I mean, come on, you cannot say that repeating “look what you made me do!” 8 times in a chorus is more of a lyrical masterpiece than “out of focus, eye to eye, until the gravity is too much”, “I don’t like your little games” vs. “I lived in your chess game but you changed the rules everyday” or even “I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time” vs. “darling I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream” Or that the heavy, non-melodic beat can genuinely be more Grammy worthy than the longing guitar and snares of All Too Well. She is so much more capable when she is vulnerable and doesn’t think about what the rest of the world thinks. Will she get the album sales or the press coverage? No, probably not. But she will have us, but above all, she will be creating masterpieces that will long outlive tabloid articles. And to me that is so much more meaningful than making a diss-track to the media.
